Today is the day!

The Tipsy Gypsy officially hits airwaves and is LIVE right here on the web. First of all, I would like to say HELLO to all my followers who are taking the time to read, follow, listen and watch this new venture. Most importantly though, I would like to say THANK YOU for the love and support I’ve received after announcing this.

Today I had the honor of starting the official Tipsy Gypsy segment on Bar Side Jive with host Darrell Chumley. You can catch us every Thursday at 7:30 CST HERE or if you miss the show, we will be available to watch and listen on demand.

On today’s episode I’m giving you my favorite summer concoction, tales of going up in smoke, and my weekly pics for the best food and drink events happening in DFW.

Stirring Shit Up

Today’s signature cocktail for the show is Rum Rum Punch, or more commonly known to my friends as “Black Out Juice.” Don’t be scared, it’s just dangerously delicious. The recipe below is for a single cocktail, but this is the perfect summer cocktail that you can batch out for your BBQs and get togethers, just convert the recipe from ounces to cups (ex: 1oz=1cup)

RUM RUM PUNCH (BLACK OUT JUICE)

1oz Mango Rum

1oz Vanilla Rum

1oz Passionfruit Rum

1.5oz Pineapple Juice

1.5oz Cranberry Juice

2 TBS cream of coconut

Mix ingredients together and serve over ice. If serving as the group serve, I recommend making it in a plunger-style pitcher. The cream of coconut tends to settle and this is an easy way to re-mix the cocktail and serve when making a large batch.

JUST THE TIP

Today’s bar etiquette tip is one of your bartender’s biggest pet peeves—the chronic tabber-outter guy. Don’t be him. If you plan on staying at your favorite establishment, keep your tab open, don’t keep closing out and re-opening your credit card. This is especially frustrating for bars that are jam packed during peak hours. It takes extra time for staff to keep printing out receipts, finding credit cards, and extra receipts they have to sort through at the end of shift.

LIFE BEHIND BARS

Today’s bar story comes from an incident that happened about 6 years ago. While I was working as the marketing director for a chain of nightclubs/live music venues, one of my establishments was known for its blue-collar crowd, which I loved. However, it seems that some customer’s habits and mine differed quite a bit. One night, a lovely young woman came into the club and had to use the facilities. This lovely woman happened to be a smoker, and instead of disposing of her cigarette in an ashtray anywhere in the club, she chose to do it in the bathroom, in a hole, in the wall of her stall. Needless to say, that night the club had to be evacuated due to smoke from the bathroom fire she created. So word to the wise, please dispose of your cigarettes in the proper places, preferably before doing your business in the bathroom. Otherwise, make sure the establishment is properly insured or asking you specifically to burn the joint down, literally.
