This week on Barside Jive I dive into the bartenders golden rule to making cocktails known as the 2:1:1

That comes down to 2 oz spirit – 1 oz sweet – 1 oz sour.

This is the basic rule to creating a well-balanced cocktail. It also helps the most basic home bartender adjust cocktails to their liking. For example if you take a simple daiquiri recipe (Rum, Simple Syrup, & lime Juice) you could easily make it 2 oz Rum, 1 oz Simple Syrup and 1 oz lime juice. Have a sweet tooth? Readjust the math to your liking by adjusting 2 oz Rum, 1.25 oz simple syrup and 1 oz lime juice.

Here we take the 2:1:1 concept and apply it to this light, refreshing, floral inspired cocktail – The lavender Lemonade.

Lavender Lemonade

2 oz Spirit (Here I used a white rum for its subtle citrus undertones)

1 oz lavender syrup

1 oz lemonade

Of course I always give you an ultimate boozy version and for that I say add some bubbles by topping with champagne or prosecco. If that isn’t your style, you can add club soda for the bubble effect, or simply just add some more lemonade or sparkling lemonade.

This is a perfect cocktail for a hot day, bridal showers, brunches, or purple inspired events.

Just garnish with fresh lemon wheels and edible florals.
